Across the communities we serve, hospitals have thankfully not yet seen the volume of coronavirus cases that have plagued major cities like New York. Still, healthcare systems here are increasing their levels of preparedness and we’re stepping in to help with reliable communications tools.
In recent weeks, we’ve been working with one hospital system to rapidly expand its existing fleet of two-way radios. The additional units are being used by emergency management teams and first responders to:
- Safely and efficiently manage traffic flow at drive-through COVID-19 testing sites
- Coordinate the movement of supplies to pop-up tents where patients can be triaged
- Communicate reliably from those tents and other outdoor areas to doctors and nurses in emergency rooms
“One of the things I’m most proud of has been our ability to get these radios into the hands of healthcare teams quickly and when they ask for them,” said BAYCOM Communication Consultant Jim Harper. “Last week I received and placed an order requesting delivery by Friday. It arrived a day later, our technicians programmed the radios, and by Friday the units were on location and being utilized. That kind of turnaround is not necessarily unusual for us, but during critical times like this – when circumstances can change drastically from one day to the next – it’s nice to know we have the people and processes in place to respond quickly.”
